The Brush Dance in the Classroom
Bring the tradition of the brush dance to your classroom.
Prepare your students to go on the Wren, to perform at weddings, school assemblies and concerts, to enjoy being active and to appreciate our musical heritage and culture.
In this workshop:
- the facilitator will break down the brush dance into easy steps
- you will learn how to teach the brush dance by doing it yourself
- you will receive a link to a playlist which you can use in the classroom
- you will learn how to incorporate the brush dance into movement breaks, school concerts etc.

Facilitator Bio:
Ranóg Townsend is a Sean Nós dance educator and performer that hails from Lixnaw, Co. Kerry. She has received both her BA in Irish Music and Dance and MA in Ethnochoreology from the Irish World Academy, University of Limerick. Her approach to dance focuses on how it sits within the music, between the notes, placing value on the relationship dancers have to traditional Irish musicians and the energy that is cultivated between performers. Her research also focuses on facilitating accessible movement classes within the health sector. In 2023 Ranóg launched Fite Fuaite Dance, a project that shares her passions with others of all ages and abilities.
